Can I work in Canada while I study?
Yes you can but only if you are studying in college or university.
Where can I work?
You can only work on campus for the first 6 months and then after that apply to work off campus for the remainder of your studies.
How much does it cost to go to school in Canada?
Generally, you should budget for about $ 2000 CAD per month. That should cover your studies and accommodation with food. As for spending money… you can spend as much or little as you like. (not for masters degrees)
Where is the best place to study English as a Second Language?
The smaller the community then the more English you will have the opportunity to learn because there are very few people you can find to speak in your own language. This will give you better chances in communicating only in English with all those around you. Smaller communities are also safer places to live and have a lower cost of living.
What is the benefit of studying high school in Canada?
The benefit is you get to make friends, learn English and study from 8:30 – 3:30. There are great sports programs and smaller class sizes. Most high schools offer classes that can help you prepare for university.
What do I need to do to get accepted into high school?
You need to fill out the application, supply copies of your transcripts and grades. It helps if you can get a letter of recommendation from a teacher.
What do I need to provide in order to get accepted to university or college?
Same as above but if your first language is not English you will need to provide proof of your English language ability. Most universities and colleges require that you have a TOEFL score higher then 550 (written).
What is the difference between studying in university and college?
There are several differences; colleges generally have less students per class, lower tuition and offer only 2 years towards a degree. Most colleges have an agreement with universities for their students to automatically transfer to complete their degree.
Is there an age limit to study in university or college?
No.
Is it difficult to get a visa to study in Canada?
It is very easy to get a visa to study in Canada, as long as you have money to attend and apply correctly.
What type of Visa do I need?
There are three types of visas you can acquire to study in Canada.
1) Study Permit – Allows you to study up to one year and renew your visa in Canada.
2) Temporary visitor visa – Allows you to study in Canada up to 6 months and you can only renew your visa in your home country.
3) Working holiday visa – it is only good for 6-12 depending on the country you are from. It can only be obtained once.
What is the best visa for studying English as a Second Language?
It depends on how long you want to study for.
Can I study ESL and then continue into university?
Yes you can, but it depends on the ESL school and the university.
Are there scholarships available for international students?
Yes there are, but you have to have studied in Canada for up to one year to apply. There may be scholarships in your own country that can help you as well.
