Weyburn Activities

 Weyburn is full of activities, and the city takes great pride in how active the youth in the community are. There are always activities going on for the youth to enjoy and interact with each other.

Karate

Karate is a fun sport. In it you must wear a gio, that's the name of the clothes that you wear. On the gio you can get badges. Every gio comes with a white belt you must dye when you advance a level. There are colours, white to black. You can buy head, foot, hand or mouth gear. Some places you can take karate are at Knox Hall or Signal Hill Arts Centre. By: Steve

Darts

In Weyburn, darts is held at the Elks or the Legion. All ages, from kids to adults. Tournaments are held during the year. It's open to practice. That is one out of many things to do in Weyburn. By: Jonathan

Youth Centre

The youth centre is very popular. It is a place for youths and teenagers. On weekdays it is open at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. On the weekends it is open at 7:30 p.m. and it ends at 11:00 p.m. There are sevral different activities you can do. They are pool,air hockey,video games pinball games, Nintendo 64 and Playstation. Upstairs there is a weight-lifting room and a gym for floor hockey. There is a canteen where you can buy drinks, pizza pops, microwave popcorn, chocolate bars and chips. If you play any game against the owner and you win, you get free things. By: Paige

Cross Country Skiing

In Weyburn there are many different ski trails.There is one trail by Souris Valley. There is a club for skiing. Every year they take a snowmobile so it can make a ski trail. Cross country skiing helps your body. It is a very good workout.  By: Jesse and Brendon

Weyburn Golf Course

The golf course at Nickle Lake is an 18 hole course. You can also practise putting at the 1st hole. They just rebuilt the golf clubhouse. At the clubhouse you can rent golf carts and golf clubs (right or left hand). You can also get memberships for $400.
In the winter you can store your golf carts at the clubhouse. You can eat there after you golf or whenever you want. By: Andrew Stepp

Swimming

There are many different activities at the Leisure Centre, Weyburn's indoor swimming pool. Some of them are water polo, swimming lessons, synchronised swimming, and adult exercise. There is also public swimming.You can use mats,flippers, tubes, water slide, wobbles, worm, bridge, noodles , flutter boards while you are swimming . There is also an outdoor pool, used in July and August. Outside you can use the diving board, mats, flippers, wobbles, and there is a canteen.


Biking Trails In Weyburn

The start of the Red Coat Trail is about one block away from the old Elgin School. It runs two ways. Along both ways there are garbage cans, bridges, benches, picnic tables, scenic views along the Souris River, and little stumps of wood that have information and pictures about different animals in the area.

The Signal Hill Trail is about the same as the Red Coat Trail, with the same facilities, but the trail has many more lanes, uphill, downhill, two large bridges, great view and facilities.

The Souris Valley is shorter but harder terrain, two trails filled with obstacles, logs and low branches. Both dip downhill then uphill. On both sides there is beautiful wildlife, trees and scenery. By: Stephanie

Gymnastics

Gymnastics is all year round. It is at Souris Valley. People at all ages can join. There are different types of levels. Some of the different levels are: Orange, Tan, and Burgundy.

Baseball

Baseball and fastball are very popular sports in Weyburn. They are played in the summer. Fastball is offered for girls. They play at Jubilee, Tom Laing Park, and Elgin. Baseball is played at Coulter, Tom Laing, and Jubilee Park. Last summer the Beavers hosted the Nationals here in Weyburn, and the Royals hosted provincials, which they won. The Royals placed seventh in North Bay, Ontario. The Weyburn Pan Oilers also won provincials in 1998. You can use the batting cages in Jubilee Park. By: Shelby


Football

There is football at the Comprehensive High School. Games are played in Weyburn and Regina.
Jr. football includes ages 10 to 14 years. Both boys and girls are on the teams.
They play against Regina as well.
This sport is very popular with the students.
There is also a Flag Football Recreational league for adults. By:  Kelsey and Brandie

Volleyball

In the winter there is a volleyball league for adults. It is played at schools at 7:00, 8:30, and 9:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. There are between 16 and 18 teams. It is a no-spike league and they occasionally have tournaments. This is just one of the many recreational activities in Weyburn. By: Jason and Adam

Tennis

In Weyburn we have 3 courts in one area. Tennis is a popular sport, but we don't have a league. We also have night tennis.The lights stay on all night. You can take lessons in the summer . The lessons are taught by Mr. Fleck and Mr. Tremblay. By: Ali

Bowling

The Super Bowl is a great, clean facility. It is the only bowling alley in Weyburn. It provides a billiard table, nine lanes with automatic scoring system, a canteen, lounge chairs, lockers for members, and a lounge that serves pizza and drinks. The newest activity is nightly Glow Bowling. They rent out shoes, and the automatic scoring system is in use during glow bowling and all bowling. The Super Bowl is located on 2nd Avenue SE. The Bowling Alley is owned by Mrs. and Mr. Williams. By: Dallen
